Ethiopia Shanta Golba - Natural - NEW SINGLE ORIGIN!

We are thrilled to announce our latest single-origin release, Ethiopia Shanta Golba. This coffee, with its rich history and vibrant flavors, showcases the dedication of smallholder farmers in the Sidama region. Known for its unique natural processing method, this coffee brings forward notes of pineapple, cherry, and cocoa powder, resulting in a bright, tropical, and indulgent cup.

A Journey Through Sidama

The Shanta Golba cooperative is part of the Sidama Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (SCFCU), one of Ethiopia’s largest and most respected exporting organizations. Located in the Bensa district of Sidama, Shanta Golba produces some of the few natural-process coffees from this region. With 1,267 farmer members, each averaging less than a hectare of coffee cultivation, the cooperative plays a crucial role in supporting smallholder farmers. In addition to coffee, these farmers grow vegetables for household consumption and local sale.

SCFCU supports the farmers of Shanta Golba by providing training in organic farming practices, improving local infrastructure, and investing in social programs. These efforts help the farmers maintain sustainable coffee production while improving their quality of life. In particular, SCFCU invests in healthcare, educational opportunities, environmental training programs, and social services like life insurance for farmers and their families.

Natural Processing: Crafting Shanta Golba

The natural processing method used by the Shanta Golba cooperative is rare for the Sidama region, making this coffee truly special. This process requires extra care and investment in both drying space and labor. The coffee cherries are dried slowly in a single layer on raised beds to ensure an even and thorough drying process, which enhances the bright acidity and tropical fruit flavors of the coffee. Over 100 workers at the cooperative’s processing sites oversee the delicate drying process, ensuring the cherries are well-maintained throughout.

Once dried, the coffee is transported to the Union’s mill in Addis Ababa for final milling and export, ensuring traceability and high-quality standards at every step.

Tasting Notes

Ethiopia Shanta Golba is a vibrant, tropical coffee with tasting notes of pineapple, cherry, and cocoa powder. The bright acidity adds a refreshing touch to the cup, while the smooth, chocolatey finish provides a satisfying balance. Its light body and dynamic flavors make it a versatile coffee, perfect for those who enjoy a complex yet approachable cup.

Whether brewed as a pour-over or an espresso, Shanta Golba’s flavors shine, offering a unique and indulgent experience with every sip.

Sustainability and Community Impact

At Blossom Coffee Roasters, we are proud to source coffee from cooperatives like Shanta Golba that prioritize both high-quality production and sustainable practices. Through the efforts of SCFCU, the farmers of Shanta Golba receive fair compensation for their work, while benefiting from organic certification, healthcare initiatives, and educational programs. These investments not only improve the quality of the coffee but also enhance the livelihoods of the farmers and their families.

Brew Recommendations

We recommend brewing Shanta Golba as a pour-over to bring out the intricate fruity notes and bright acidity. Start with a 1:16 coffee-to-water ratio and adjust to taste, depending on your preference for strength and sweetness. This coffee also makes a delightful espresso, where the balance of fruit and cocoa flavors offers a rich, flavorful shot.
